BREAD DOUGH FIGURES
Experience nativity figures in a different way. Shaped from or with rye flour and beautifully painted, they present themselves as the object of the month in the pre-Christmas PANEUM.
In addition to a Christmas feast and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, bread dough figures are an important part of Christmas in the Erzgebirge. While today these are mainly made of wood and plastic, in the 19th and early 20th century they were created from other moldable materials, such as paper fibres, glue, flour or plaster. As rye flour was originally the main ingredient, they are called bread dough figures. In addition to the nativity figures, soldiers, guards, trumpet players, clergymen and various villagers and townspeople are often depicted. On display until 31.12.2023.
